Leading Mathematics - 2022-23 - Shropshire, Telford and Wolverhampton Work Group

Overview: supporting school leaders in leading effective PD and school improvement in their own schools

Who: Headteacher and Maths Lead of any school that has already taken part in Developing Mastery (except those taking part this year as they automatically proceed to Embedding Mastery). Workshops for other teachers in school will also be offered via the ‘leading mathematics’ programme.

School leaders will be invited to nominate other teachers from their school to take part in additional Work Groups offered through this programme. The range is likely to include:

  • Teaching for Mastery: for leaders and teachers new to Teaching for Mastery
  • Specialist knowledge for Teachers and TAs
  • Teaching for Mastery: transition from Primary to Secondary school
  • Developing Maths Leadership skills through collaboration with leaders in other schools

Conference for Headteachers and Maths Leaders

a) Programme launch: fostering positive attitudes towards mathematics 

b) Keynote speaker - developing mathematical thinking and problem solving , Dr. Ems Lord, Primary Director, NRICH Maths

Spring  Wednesday/Thursdays in February 2023

Choose to attend one event in either Shropshire, Herefordshire, Telford or Wolverhampton

Showcase ‘open’ Teaching for Mastery lesson event.

Watch a 'live' specialist lesson and discuss key features that enable children to make best progress and develop a deep understanding of mathematics

Summer  Wednesday 17th May 2023, 12.45pm - 4pm at the Kindle Centre, Hereford

and repeated in Telford at Telford AFC, Thursday 18th May 2023, 8:45am - 12noon.

a) Supporting the evaluation of maths school improvement. Led by HT advocates & Primary Leadership team. 

b) ‘Inspection of primary maths: challenge & differentiation’ - Hannah Stoten, HMI, national subject lead for early mathematics (Ofsted)
